The course explores business and economics in an Indigenous context within Canadian society. Students will learn about historical and contemporary Indigenous business and economic practices and how they contribute(d) to the livelihood of Indigenous Peoples and the Canadian landscape. This course will build upon previous courses and will touch on historical policy and legislation, including the Indian Act of 1867 and its impact on Indigenous business practices. It will touch on supports for Indigenous businesses and entrepreneurs, and will review contemporary terminology and common myths. Lastly, the course will highlight the benefits of economic development for Indigenous Peoples and the contributions they have made to the Canadian economy.
